The definition of citizen science is below.
Citizen science is the partnership between professional researchers and the public, where volunteers (citizen scientists) collect, analyze, and share data to advance scientific knowledge. Anyone can get involved to help monitor the environment, identify species, or classify images, often contributing to large-scale, long-term studies.

There is a need to connect with nature in order to protect it. One cannot value the outdoors unless they are engaged in a meaningful way. That may be a hike, rowing or canoeing, bouldering, gardening, birding and more.
The West Harlem Art Fund will produce nature-based programs for the public. On March 7th we are partnering with NYC Bird Alliance for birding at 9am. It’s on a Saturday and stargazing (our 3rd attempt this winter) on March 28th from 5-7pm. Both events will be in Morningside Park. In April, we will plan two observation walks in Jackie Robinson Park and Highbridge Park. The goal is to have participants journal their observations. No right or wrong answers. We will look at trees, identify invasive species, check on other problems. And we want folks to share what they see with fellow neighbors.
This process will help our organization find good locations to place public art. Learn what others appreciate. If you are interested in these nature based programs which are free. Email westharlemartfund12@gmail.com.
